Nothing to track you with

Last updated 19 October 2026

Rat Race Reader has no accounts for readers, no advertising, no trackers and no cookies for visitors. Here is everything it does keep.

Your reading choices stay on your device

Your colours, font, text size, spacing, reading level and listening speed are saved in your own browser (its “local storage”) so they’re there next time. They are never sent to us. Clear your browser’s data for this site and they’re gone.

Counting page views, not people

Our own server counts how many times each page is opened each day, where a visit came from in general terms (a search engine, a social site, another website, or straight in), and whether it was a phone, a tablet or a computer. It also counts which reading level people choose for each book. These are numbers only: we keep no addresses, no browser details and no identifiers, and we set no cookies, so we can’t tell one person from another. No outside analytics service is involved. Our web server keeps no access log of visitors.

Listening

The Listen button uses your device’s own text-to-speech. The text is read aloud on your device; nothing is sent to us or anyone else.

Fonts and everything else

Every font, picture and script comes from our own server. Nothing on these pages loads from Google, a font service, a social network or any other company. Links to Project Gutenberg and to sources open other websites, which have their own privacy policies.

The admin area

The people who run the site sign in to an admin area. That uses a cookie, for them only, with two-step sign-in. Signed-in admins aren’t counted in the page views.

Movement

Full: drifting scenes, page turns and fades. Gentle: fades only. Still: nothing moves.

Listening

The Listen button on each work reads it to you with your device’s own voice: nothing is sent anywhere.
